I have no idea which one I should get! I would prefer one that doesn't bite much and likes to be both cuddled and played with.
Hamsters ... in my point of view ... they generally likes to be cuddled more, and they are more gentle. The bigger one are nicer ... but if you want a more active one, dwarf hamsters are VERY Active ...
However, if you are planning to keep moore than one in one cage, gerbils can live together. I have a hamster now, and i used to have a gerbil. My hamster is more affectionate, and likes to be around people more. The gerbil was extremely entertaining to watch, but it doesn't like human contact as much.
Rodents are normally nocturnal. By the time i get home from school, my hamster is already up and running.: D
This is only the stereotype and my own opinions. Normally, if you spend enough time with a pet, it will like to play with you and wont bite.
Neither a hamster or gerbil like much cuddling. With all the hamsters I ' ve had it's hard to keep them still in your hands. I would go with a hamster, I've never owned a gerbil but from what I see from them they're hyper and crazy and A LOT harder to find if they get lost roaming around because they're so small. But the decision is entirely up to you, your the one taking care if it. I'm sure which ever one you get will be an good little pet:)

I have had experience with both males and females, and usually are females are quite nippy and tend to hate being held. But the males where never bit me, loved running around and hiding in my jacket ...
Hamsters .. Meh they're cute but love to bite .. I wouldn't get another as they sleep most of the day and active during the night.

i would get a gerbil ....... ive had both and the hamsters we had seem all nice and cuddly, but ours hated being held and bit a ton, now we have a gerbil and it hasnt biten once yet and LOVES being held ............... i know this wasnt in your question but guinea pigs are about a jillion times better then gerbils.

Hamster are nocturnal, so they are awake when u sleep, and mostly sleep when ur awake unless u wake them, not gerbils though that are sleeping when we sleep and awake when we are awake
They are the friendliest little critters ever.
They are so cute and they love to run around on your belly x).
Right now, my 2 gerbils are chewing on some cardboard having a blast, and when they sleep, they sleep on top of each other and use each other as pillows-its so cute.
Get gerbils!! (BTW gerbils have a longer life span then other rodents)
EDIT: One more thing, get to males, because males can be cuddly and playful, when females like to run around and are very hard to cuddle with
haha neither cause they are very energetic and more likely to bite.
Id recommend a RAT cause they are the best pets ever and can even be taught tricks very intelligent very rarely bite.LOVES kisses and cuddles and overall make great pets.

I would get a gerbil I have 3 gerbils who have never bitten me. Another good thing about gerbils is that they are active in the day time so they are much more playful when you are awake rather than when you are asleep.
I would get a hamster. The Robo hamster don't tend to bite to much:)
