My rat just bit me .... HELP?

  Okay so I was letting my new rat sniff my finger through the cage and she stared nibbling on it (just like people said they do) then all of a sudden she bit me and drew blood. It hurt rele bad and now I want to return it. Why did it do that?! I never did anything to scare or hurt her. Why why why did she do it? D;
She probably thought you were offering her something eat. Everything is new to her, give her time to settle. You should wash the finger, apply antiseptic and stick a plaster on it; if the finger gets hot or swells, go to the doctor for a course of antibiotics. It's not the end of the world. Your parents wouldn't give you away for not tidying your room, give her a break.
Depending on where you got your rat I would be worried that she was possibly pregnant. The only rat I have ever had that bit was pregnant and she stopped biting after her babies weaned.

The pregnant rat was bought at a pet store by a little girl who lived near me, often pet stores will unknowingly sell pregnant animals.

Some rats can also get cage aggressive if they are used to people feeding them through their cage wire, this can cause them to bite through the bars, but usually not any other time.
I'd get the rat looked at, it can be tested for any diseases, or you can just get a shot. Don't return the poor thing just because it bit you, people get second chances why shouldn't animals? Pet the rats and talk to them more, it will make them more used to you. I trained my rabbit to sit on the couch and watch TV with me and when i shake a bag of treats she comes running. Rats are smart. You may have had some salt on your fingers or something and it mistook it for a carrot or whatever treats or food you give it.
I would not jump to conclusions that she is a mean rat or anything else. She just does not know your smell, and decided she wanted a better taste. I have never had a rat bite, but I have never put my finger up to the cage with a new one either, I stick them on the couch with me, and when they decide they want to explore me in my environment, they can come and climb on and sniff me. Give her time, take her out of the cage, and let her get to know you.
She probably is used to being fed through the bars ans that is why she bit you. Do not return her, it was your mistake, you should not be putting your fingers through the bars, if you want to interact with her open the door and put your whole hand in or take her out.
just go to a Doc, and get a minimum TT Shot,, its not painfull,,, rats carry tatnus,, rabies,, HP,, and many more things,, if you washed it imidiatly,, then i think you'll be well,, but you need to go to a Doctor,,, trust me,, my mommy and dad, both are Doctors,,,,,

NEVER stick your fingersthrough the cage.

YOU are at fault, not the rat.

don't punish or return the rat for something YOU did.

it's her first day there and you're already harrassing her.

How old are you?
Shes just nervous ...... dont return her!! Give her a few days, im pretty sure all rodents bit the first few days, there just not use to being held and kinda scared. or ...... you ate something/spilled something on your finger and she just wanted to eat it
How new is she? Have you had her for a few days? She is probably still getting used to you. If she bites you more after a few weeks or months, I don't know whats wrong.

Hope this helps!!
She probably thought your finger was food. If you want to stroke her open the cage door. Also if you got her from a petshop she wont have been very well socialised
You need to go to the doctors to get a shot. Rats can carry harmful deceases and it's not worth the risk.
DONT TAKE HER BACK!!!! OMG ... pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

AND DONT LISTEN TO THOSE PEOPLE .... THEY DONT CARRY DISEASES ... ONLY WILD RATS DO ... RARELY!!!
If it is new than its because he dont know you, but if youve had him for a while it can be many things
