I have a 9 month old long hair guinea pig who looses quite a bit or hair. Every time I pet him, a good amount of hair falls out.
Now as a good owner I started my own research and I found out that long hair guinea pigs normally loose a good amount of hair. Also I checked on the possible illnesses and I am positive my guinea pig has none of those problems. So I do believe that it is normal hair loss.
My question is if there is anything that I can do to stop or at least slow down the amount of hair he is shedding? His shedding makes it hard to play with him anywhere without him getting his hair all over and then I have to go back and clean it all up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks:)
I've owned guinea pigs for around 5 years. From my knowledge, natural shedding isn't possible to prevent.
What I would suggest is regularly brushing your guinea pig (once or twice daily) as it is a longhaired breed and will require this to prevent it from shredding too much throughout the day.=) Like humans, they need to be groomed to keep the fur in good condition. This should help the shedding and hopefully rid him of the loose fur.
I simply brush my long hair before playing with her, she loves her brushing, she will even raise her tummy up so i can get under there!!
There's no way to stop it, sorry its just apart of a guinea pig life.
sorry, No way to stop it. that's just what come in owning a long haired guinea pig.
My pig is the same, i'm afraid grooming him as often as possible before playing with him
