is it bad for a guinea pig to have a bald spot its behind his ear and he has a scab on his ear too
ALL guinea pigs have bald spots behind each ear. It is perfectly normal. Scabs on the ear are not normal but they are rarely serious. The ear is probably the most unprotected and tenderest skin on a guinea pig and is easily scratched which can leave a scab. I wouldn't worry unless the scab doesn't fall of and leave healthy skin in a few days to a week. If it doesn't it could be ringworm or mites which will require a vet visit
Well, I have a guinea pig. So I'm know ALOT about them and ... It's not uncommon for the bedding in a guinea pig's cage to irritate his or her fur and skin. This promotes the guinea pig to scratch at the area which may cause baldness. Mites, disease, and other ailments can also cause baldness. A trip to the vet would be your best idea.
Guinea pigs have a normal hairless area behind their ears but there shouldn't be any scabs. Mites and ringworm are common. Locate a vet who is very experienced with guinea pig medicine and have him checked out.

All guinea pigs have bald spots behind their ears, this is normal. If there is a scab, though, it could be from scratching. Are his nails in need of a trim? If his nails are long and sharp that could cause a problem. the other cause could be mites, which can easily be treated with three doses of ivermectin, each two weeks apart. If you are worried, check with your vet. Also see the guinea lynx website for lots of useful hints and tips on guinea pig care:

Bald spots are normal; every single guinea pig has a bald spot behind the ear.
However, the scab isn't normal. It may be signaling ear mites! These need veterinarian treatment as soon as possible. He could also have dry skin. If you're bathing him a lot, this could be a cause.

My old guinea Ginger had this, and as my Mum is a vet, we knew it was Mange, a skin condition. It's common and very treatable. Just take him to the vets. They'll give you stuff to treat him.
