Did I do the right thing?

My guinea pig was lethargic and did not eat so I took it to the vet yesterday. They charged me a huge bill. Could this have been cured on its own? Should I have waited one more day? Did I do the right thing? Today they said it was fine. Was it worth it?
You did the right thing. Whenever there is the possibility of your pet having serious complications or death from an illness it is always better to be safe than sorry. Hind sight is always 20/20, so after we look back on a situation we are relying on different facts. I have spent quite a lot of what would be "wasted money" on vet bills. However, I have also spent quite a lot on necessary treatment .

I once spent about $ 400 on a ferret that I thought may have adrenal disease. After all the visits, and test I was told he probably only had seasonal hair loss. I rescue small rodents from neglectful pet stores. The current rat I have cost me around $ 200. There was a definite possibility that he was not going to make it. He is doing great now, but if he had died (like some others in my care have), I would have counted what I spent as "wasted money" ;, questioned weather I should have tried something else, waited on treatment, etc. However, since he did make it than spending the money was worth it. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

There are many reasons that he could be doing fine today. Perhaps the vet gave him Sub-q fluids. I have had many ill animals that needed fluids, and after they were administered the animal was 90% better.

Have you asked what they thought the problem was? Or what they did for the gp while it was at the vets office? They could have done more than you realize.

I think it was worth it. When my animals need vet care I get it for them. No matter the outcome it is always worth it. Even if nothing turns out wrong, the peace of mind knowing they were taken care of is worth the cost . On the flip side, the cost of being wrong, and waiting too long is not worth it either. Go with your instincts, try to ignore the money.
Think about this, had your guinea pig died that next day because you didn't take him to the vet? How would you feel. Even if it could be cured you did the right thing bringing him to the vet. NICE!
I think you did the right thing. What if you had a baby that was lethargic and not eating? You would get them care immediately! You did the right thing. Anything could have been wrong.
it was worth it if you want ur piggie to live, but they dont have a very long life span when they live alone.
Right thing.
yes
You didnt want her to her to die or anything. You did the right thing
