Diatomaceous Earth and rodents?

i know that a lot of people mix in diatomaceous earth with their poultry's food (mixing in 2% of it to the feed) because it helps to prevent internal parasites. i was wondering if anyone does this with pet rodents to prevent worms. I think with dogs some people rub it on them to get rid of flee problems and i know you can do this with chicken too. so if a hamster or rat had a flee problem do people ever use diatomaceous earth? i was just interested because apparently its one of the safest parasite treatments
my family uses it for our cat. we rub it on him to get rid of fleas and put it is his wet food for internal parasites. it gets rid of fleas better than the chemical treatments and it's safer . just make sure you purchase food-grade. it is also safe for humans, so there's no worry.
