bit on her eye and its getting larger. if you shine her eye in the sunlight you can see a white circle and the white of her eye, the outside, is getting larger too. is she going blind? whats wrong with her? shes two years old, what should i do?
thanks
If the white bit is in the centre of her eye, it could be the start of a cataract, which will mean she will lose focus in her vision, but should not cause her problems as guinea pigs use their sense of smell a lot. She should still be seen by a vet. If it looks a bit cloudy, if could be that she has had an eye injury (poke from a bit of hay) and that will clear up; the eye goes cloudy while it is healing. It could also be lens luxation, where the lens of the eye falls out of place - this can't really be treated. Take her to the vet for the eye to be checked - if it is a poke injury there are drops she can have to make her more comfortable.
The slightest little thing chaining in ones eyes is very painful, for that reason alone you need to take your guinea pig to a vet asap. When it comes to the eyes it an be so many things as has already been suggested, it just is not worth not taking your guinea pig to an exotic vet.
Is the white spot on the surface of the eye on the cornea? If so and she is squinting it is probably an ulcer and needs to be treated right away. If the white is inside her eye ... inside the black pupil, then she could be developing juvenile cataracts and should be seen asap.
You have to take her to the vets immediately before she loses her eye sight and the eye has to be removed. You must never leave it when a guinea pig displays signs of anything wrong.
take her to the vet, mine had something wrong with his eye and it could be a tumor they will look and put drops in and tell you if its serious or not they might just give you drops like they did me.
