I've seen lots of questions like this one, but would like to know which type of rat is best for me.
I am looking for an easy-to-care-for pet that loves to cuddle and can be taught tricks. I've done tons of research, like no pine/cedar bedding, they need a cage-mate, hairless require extra care, etc. I just can't decide which type of rat would be best. I'm not too excited about males "marking" or their "parts", but I want a pet that likes to be held. Are females content to sit in your lap, or are they always full of energy? Will males also be able to learn tricks, or are they too lazy? I've heard hairless rats like to be held more, but also have more health problems. Which rats are your personal favorites? Do you think another small rodent would make a better pet for me? Thanks!
If you want a cuddly rat, get two males! Females tend to be more hyper and like to run all over you. They are affectionate, just not in a cuddly way. Also females mark too. But I get the whole thing about the male parts, that's why I have five female fancies and no males.

Rats are the best of the rodents for pets. They enjoy interaction with their human companions. Hamsters, gerbils, and mice tend to want as little to do with you as possible. So go with the rats!
I got my girlfriend ( ex now) an albino male when he was a few months old. His balls got huge but she loved him a lot, more than me i think. I think any rat you get will be a good one for you if you spend a lot of time with them and you two will have a happy life.
definatly get a fancy female rat. they smart, cute, and love to cuddle. make sure she has a friend to keep her company or they can get rele depressed. hope this helps!
I have 3 hairless rats and 2 furry ones. They are all males. The hairless ones do need a little more care and are prone to dry skin. I like the furry ones better because they are soft. I am kind of biased about what sex to get because I have 5 males but I have had one female and she was more distant than my males are. None of my rats have ever bitten anyone. As for their "parts", once you get use to them you won't even notice them. Males are definitely my sex of choice. Good luck with your decisions.
I would definitely recommend get a furry possibly a Dumbo cause i think there extra cute. Also they are very easy to care for and would make a perfect pet for an inexperienced Rat Owner.

I think if you want a cuddly pet get a male they tend to be very lazy and love having rides on your shoulder.But will be smellier then females.
All make wonderful pets.
Only warning i will give they are very addictive i started with 2 now have like 13.
