I got 2 rats yesterday and I want them to trust me. I've given them yogurt like ppl said but it didnt seem to help. Any other suggestions? Please help!
You need to leave them a few days because they need time to get used to there new environment and make it their own.
Once they get used to it they will become more curious and willing to come to you.
Keep up the Yoghurt feeding and a nice bit of chicken also gets them excited i find.
They need longer than a day to settle down. They should have a few days with u just talking to them quietly so they get used to their new environment, then after the few days, put ur hand in with treats, they will smell ur hands then get the treat. and when u feed them in the morning, let them smell u and put sum of their food on ur hand and give it to them, that way they know that their food is cuming from u and they will trust you: D
Be patient and give it time. They don't know what is going on and need to be comfortable within their cage before being handled. Keep hand feeding them treats so they know your hand brings good things. Be calm around them. When I deal with nervous rats I usually put the cage where I want to play with them and leave the door open. They are naturally curious and after a few days will come out on their own. (Only ever do this while you are supervising, otherwise leave the door shut.)
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com They will warm up! Don't worry. Just be patient.
If they came from a petshop, then they will not have been handled very well so it may take them time to get used to you. Just keep at it. Its always best to get your rats off a breeder. I just bought 4 4 week old rats off a breeder today. They have settled in, and they love being held and stroked
