I am 14 years old and have had a hamster before. I want a guinea pig. My mom said that they are very noisy, are they? Should I know anything else before I bring one heme? I know they need Vitamin C in their diet . Should I get a hamster or a guinea pig?
I find hamsters are louder then guinea pigs. But because of their vocal noises. Hamster love to run on their wheel at night, they are up pretty much all night, and when they run on their wheels it makes noise, no wheel is going to be completely silent. So you may have trouble falling asleep when you hear the wheel. Or it may wake you up, if it's in the same room as you.
Another thing a hamster may do is chew on the metal bars of it's cage, if there are any. That is even louder then the wheel. Even if your hamster has something else it's supposed to chew on they may still chew on the bars.
Another thing hamsters like to do sometimes is try to escape their cages. So are very good at it too.
Not all hamster are this way, but these are just common things I see happen with hamsters. I have had 5. (Not all at once though.)

Another thing about hamsters is they are more solitary, I think it's harder to bond with them, they seem to like to be left alone more. And it's very hard for two hamster to live together. So if you want more then one you have to have two separate cages.
With guinea pigs, they do make vocal noises, sometimes they squeal really loud, called wheeking, but only when they know they are about to get food, then sometimes they make little noises when they are running around or you are petting them, but it's not anything that prevents you from going to sleep at night.
Pigs like to chew, but if you give them an empty tissue box, chew blocks or other guinea pig chew toys they will not chew on anything else.
Only thing I find annoying or loud about their noises is when they drink from their water bottle, it makes a loud clicking nose, but it's only for like 20 seconds at a time, not as bad as when a hamster runs on a wheel all night .
Guinea pigs will not try to escape their cages.

Also, guinea pigs are more social animals, and like to live with more then one pig. And it's a lot of fun to have at least two. And they can live together in one cage and be very happy. It's easy to bond with them too. Sometimes if you only have one they get depressed.
It is a little more expensive to get two, but you can do things to cut down cost, like try to find pigs at your local shelter. I got my 2 pigs from there, and they were $ 5 each, compare to $ 35 each at Petsmart !

Guinea Pigs are more responsibilty than hamsters, but they're just as friendly.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Personally, I think hamsters have funnier personalities. Great things come in small packages after all, but it's up to your personal preference in the end. Guinea pigs make a cute noise like a hamster but a little louder.
Do a bit more research to really convince your mum if you truly want a guinea pig and are commited to looking after them (oh yeah, they like to live in groups, they're real sociable mammals! ^ ^)
Hope you get your wish!>. ~

And you would probably be better of with getting a c & c cage.
It's better for them so that they can have they're excerise.
