My friend Taylor has had her ferret Charlie for 4 years now, Taylor and I would play with him every time I was over at her house. Taylor is moving in a few days and cannot bring him to the household she is moving to, I offered to take care of him until she can get him back if that were possible if my mom would allow it. My mom is terrified of rodents, even though I've tried explaining to her its not a rodent and I even offered to have her play with him for a bit to get to know him, she afraid he will bite her if he gets loose. Charlie is trained to the point if you let him out of his cage he will come back to you if you call his name, he's friendly and playful. Taylor will give me her cage toys any food supplies she has left and her little book she received when she first got him 4 years ago. Is there anyway I can show my mom that he's not going to be a menus and how friendly he is. Normally if Charlie was like a cat or a dog or even some sort of reptile my mom wouldn't really care she is just terrified of anything that looks like a rodent.
A lot of people are nervous about what they 're unfamiliar with. Maybe you could politely convince your mom to look @ some websites about ferrets & maybe read a bit of the book Taylor has. You could also get a small lock for Charlie's cage & assure your mom that you'll always watch him carefully when he's out to play.

Ferrets may look like rodents to some people, but are more closely related to weasels, skunks & similar animals. They've been domesticated for like 3,000 years & the ones sold as pets are bred to be docile. Our ferret was a lot like our cats in personality & she loved to play "tag" with 1 of our kitties. Since Charlie is over 4 years old, he's well past the stage of playful nipping.

Ask Taylor to come over and explain about Charlie. Offer to buy a lock for the cage and promise to always keep your door shut when you're not in the room in case he did get loose. Explain to her what may happen to Charlie if you can't take him in, but don't blackmail her or use a sympathy vote.
ask her if she can give you a few days and you'll keep it in your room out of her sight. or ask her if she can see the ferret or see if she can get used to it. then tell her all that you wrote on here and see what happens.
prove to her that the ferret is extremely obedient and will not bite.
Well the best thing i can tell you to do is tell her to give you like a week to show her that you can take care of him. That would also help you mom get to know the animal and eventually start to like him . Yes, it is a long and kinda of a complicated thing. Make sure you also tell her that it may not be permanent. My mom was like that too but with dogs. She gave me 2 weeks so show her that i could take care of it. By the time it was all over she ended up loving the dog. so just try that but if that doesn't work than im sorry ..
