Why are people so scared of rats? I personally think they're pretty cute?
Well, I'm a rodent lover ... so, it explains why I love them so much.

But what I don't understand is that people tend to "over-react" when they see a rat, and they'll start screaming and run away from it ...

I mean come on man ... it's a baby rat. It's f*kcing ADORABLE! I'm a guy and I f*kcing love rodents.

Rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, squirrels ... YOU NAME IT! I f*kcing LOVE them man!!!!!!

people are still biologically programmed to fear certain animals. rats for thousands of years have been carrying diseases, so it's wise to be afraid of them, so we would stay away from them.

they have diseases @_@
and they taste nasty
Pet rats are way cool,,, the reason people are uncomfortable around rats has to do with the filthy environs they live in while in their natural habitat...the fact that they were chiefly responsible for the spread of the black death/plague in the middle ages didn't help either...lol
Well because they are scared they might have rabies.

But i think they are cute too but my dad hates them so i cant have them! :(
Good for you bro. I'm glad someone is representing the rodents of the world, and giving them some much needed lov. Keep on fighting the good fight brother! Rats 4 Life!
I agree, I'm a guy and rats are freaking adorable. My sister has two and I want my own but my parents won't let me :( but I love to play with my sisters rats.
could be that people are afraid of diseases the rat has been known to carry and spread like the bubonic plague that killed millions
Personally I love all pets and rodents. I think alot people see the a long scaley tail and unconsciously associate with being like a snake. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
Rats today have so few health concerns with people that I think it unfair people think of them as germy. We are talking domesticated rats here. When 's the last time you heard some body get sick from a pet rat?
Rats have been given an ignorant, hackneyed stereotype since the middle ages. They are survivors extraordinaire and a species that includes the best of human qualities sans the worst. Fancy ratus bred for domestication during the Victorian period in England are one of the cleanest, most intelligent and beautiful pets available today. Each individual pet rat develops their own personality and traits. The different breeds of fancy (domesticated) rats have there own beauty and characteristics. The only negatives of owning rats as a pet are their life expectancy is 2.5-3 years and they have weak bladders. But even the weak bladders can be trained. Rats are great pets.
Ignorance, prejudice and stereotypes create the fear. Simple, vacuous minds believe the fear...
