How to look after a mouse?
We've been trying to catch a mouse in our house for months and we finally caught him in a humane trap an hour ago. Unfortanately if we released him he would freeze to death in the cold tonight so we've had to put him in an old medium sized plastic fish tank (the lid is covered in air holes built into it). Any advice on how to look after him incase we are snowed in tomorrow and unable to release him?
haha that is very nice of you, i'd say a shoe box with holes and shredded newspaper not sure on food.
Put it in a cage, they eat anything so don't worry. Make sure it has water and watch your fingers.
Give it a large cage.

If it is a house mouse, one that can be used as mascot then you really shouldn't pay attention to what I say otherwise the mouse/rat will be fine if you release it miles away into the woods or a wild place.
The mouse could probably survive for a few days without any care at all, but if you really want to take care of it, just give it any kind of table scraps/crumbs and water that it would normally eat as it scurries around your house anyway. That and some kind of bedding (torn up newspaper, napkins, kleenexes), and it should be fine. Don't let it bite you!
If you have any birdseed or some other small animal food, give him that. If you have neither, unsweetened cereal like Cheerios or Rice Krispies will suffice until you release him. You can also give him nuts, crackers and small pieces of non-citrus fruit like apple, though you cannot leave fresh fruit in there for too long. Make sure he has a small water bowl. The plastic fish tank with lid is perfect to keep him in as mice will chew through cardboard. He needs something to hide in. If you can find a small cardboard box to put in the bin, that would be great. Cut more than one entrance, as otherwise he will feel trapped if there is only one way in and out. Give him plenty of tissue or paper towels to nest and burrow in. The best time of day to release is dawn or dusk. Mice are crepuscular, meaning active primarily during twilight hours: dawn and dusk. The ideal place for release is an area with plenty of ground covering, no residential or commercial buildings and a lot of small bird traffic. This will ensure he has a place to hide and make a home, he will not enter someone else's house and there will be food. A park is best, so if you have one near, try for that. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
I cannot tell you how happy I was to read your question. There are a lot of questions posted on this pet-rodent forum asking for ways to kill the wild mice that get into their houses. Not only are these people posting in the wrong forum, but they get nasty and insulting when I politely tell them. You ARE posting in the correct forum since you used a humane trap and merely want to release him back where he belongs, and I thank you for your kindness. The world needs more people like you.
awwwwwwww i used to have mice as pets, they rocked! ok well whatever you do don't kill it! You should get some grass from outside and place it in the cage so it can have a nest and a bathroom.
wild mice eat almost anything but i suggest you put peanut butter for it. a dab of it would be a good amount. ( a teaspoon) you should use a bottle cap ( not a beer cap, the alcohol can damage the mouse's sense of smell) clean it then fill it with water. now the mouse has a little home in till you release it! when u release it, put it in the woods, not by a river or a hole cuz snakes. :) thx for being kind to the R.I.C.E animals ;)
