I have a few questions about hamsters ...?

Okay, so I really want a hamster, and I've been asking my mom for months, and she keeps saying it wouldn't be fair to our three cats because they'd be watching it all the time and stuff, and that the hamster would be scared, and that they don't live that long ... so how do I convince her? Also, can I get the Habitrail OVO Loft anywhere in New Brunswick, Canada? And what can I do to keep cats away from the hamster? And most of all, is it worth it?
You can't get just the loft. It connects to over habitrail OVO things. Their would not the enough room for the hamster if you just got that. I don 't suggest anything that is plastic because they will chew right through it and escape. The best thing for them is a fish tank without the water. Put their wheel, food, water bottle, things to keep their teeth down, and a house for them to live in. And plenty of bedding. They like to make tunnels.

It depends what kind of hamster you get, how big of a fishtank you should get. By the way, get one without a lid and make one out of wood, or get one with a screen lid. They don't need one with a light. Besides they are more expensive. I have a robo hamster right now, they are so small too, and I have her in a 10 gallon tank. I take her out once in a while to run around in her ball.

The cats should leave it alone if you maybe put it in your bedroom. Or on a shelf, not the floor. Just don't put it where the cats are always around. I have a cat and she was curious about it at first and now it is just another jump to get up to my loft bed. haha.

Tell your mom that you will clean the pen, not her. Tell her you will remember to feed it, not her. Tell her you will change its water and clean out the bottle, not her. And tell her you will make sure the hamster will get out of the pen and run around in a ball. She might not want you to have one because of expenses. Maybe you could buy the hamster and say the wheel, house, and ball. She could buy the food, treats, fish tank, and water bottle. Just make a deal with her to split the expenses. They aren't too expensive of pets anyway.

It is definitly worth it. My hamster's name is Lucy. Since she is so small, I can't hold her. She is very fast. So if you want a hamster that you can hold, go with a bigger breed. Whenever we see Lucy running around in her cage, we say "Hi Little Lucy" and she perks her head up like she knows her name. She is so cute! It is definitly worth it. And if you take care of it really well, they can live a pretty long life. I have had Lucy I would say about 8 months now. She is doing great! Make sure you read up about how to properly take care of a hamster. And once you decide what breed you want, read up about those ones. I spent a long time looking up things about them. Tell your mom that too, that you spent however many hours researching to prove to her that you can be responsible. Lucy is a Robo hamster, and they live about 3 years I think it said. We have really good luck with pets though so hopefully she may live for longer. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Hope I helped and if you have any more questions for me, just email me and I will try to answer them. Good luck!=)
My friend has two cats, a dog and a hamster and they pretty much ignore the hamster . They watched her for a few days but seemed to figure out that they couldnt get to her and ignore her now. My friend padlocks the cage door so that the cats cant open it. Plus the hamster sleeps most of the day so it isnt like they will be able to see her, she will be in her bed.
Declaw your cats so they can't climb to get the hamster, and never let the cats get near the hamster. If you are handling the hamster, close the door. If you can do this, the hammy should be okay. Hamsters are great and I love them, but since you have 3 cats, do yuo really need more pets? That's your descision of course, just if you do get a hammy , keep it safe, and in your room, if possible
All you have to do is keep the door to the room the hammies are in closed. Then the cats can't get in and the ham won't be scared! !!:) Also, dwarfs live 1-2 years and full sized hamsters live 2-3 years. That's actually a pretty long time, i think. Just take good care of it. Hams are so sweet I think it's worth it!
