DO NOT GO TO PETSMART OR PETCO OR PET SUPPLIES PLUS !!!!! They often abuse their guinea pigs and its very possible for u to take home pregnant sow. I suggest going to a shelter in your local area. if their are no adoption places near you, you can even try a place like Craigslist or ebay. Though craigslist is probably the better of the two for guinea pigs. Just be sure to ask them if the separated the males from the females at three months. If not go to to someone else, unless u are getting a boar. I also suggest going to guinealynx.com and learning how to sex a guinea pig (tell its gender). I also have another bit of advise for you

Adopting guinea pigs is the best, more than 1,000,000 get put in a shelter a year! Use petfinder to find a place near you. If you can't find one, got to the local petstore. Only buy it if they do not abuse the animals there. Check to make sure their eyes, ears, mouth, and nose is clean.
I don't really know the area you are in, but Craigslist is a great place to look for pets that local owners may be trying to give up for adoption. That's how I got my cat and I'm just in love with her!
I dont know where you live - i'm in New Zealand! but try the phone book or the weekly classifieds in your newspaper.
