Day Old Guinea Pig wont open its eyes?
Okay so my Guinea Pig Had her first litter yesterday (18th) And 1 of the Babies died, she gave birth to 4 Living Babies but one of them is clearly the runt, It was being pushed around by its older more healthy siblings and the mum was even stepping on him so I removed him from there cage and put him in a box beside me, I made sure he's safe and warm, I feed him every 2 Hours.
Anyways He's feeding really well but He's eyes arent open, Will they open eventually or will he start to have problems? I'm really hoping he survives
he needs to stay with the mom when it is so young. protect ii when its hurt or ignored but other than that keep it with her. may not seem good, but its best for it.
Don't try to open his eyes - leave it to him - he's probably a bit behind the others and might be alright when he catches up.
I am not sure with Guinea Pig's but Kittens don't open their eyes for a few days, so it may be the same with your Guinea Pig.
my hamsters had babies and they didnt open their eyes either til after a week but i think you should put it back because the mother will worry and the baby needs its milk and warmth . salamat :)
I'm no expert but I don't think removing the pup from its Mum and siblings is the best way to go....if I were you, I would put him back in, position him so that he can suckle and just keep an eye on him so he is safe....being taken away from the others will only mark him as an outcast and could cause the others to attack him. If he hasn't opened his eyes by tomorrow, I would think he's in trouble. Hope this helps :)
Go to the Drug store and get Boric acid and mix 1/8 tsp to 1 cup of warm water and wash his eye with it sever times a day. One of mine was born with one eye shut and that is how it treated it and he was just fine, in fact if you want to see it you can go to my You Tube site and view Announcement and the little sand colored one is running about with one eye shut.

I breed gerbils but they might be a little the same. With gerbil babies I think its a week or so for them to open their eyes. I'm sure its fine your GP wont yet

Wait a few more days.
They might open.
I think you are right to separate the baby before mom rejects him and he dies. It's good that you are feeding him and hes doing well--until he is bigger and can hang out with his siblings.
3 piggers on mama's 2 teats....you were right to remove the 1 runt and nurse him....Give mom a lot of food as long as she nurses them. Consult a vet on his eye issue.
