Not only humans are gay. Homosexuality is common in the animal kingdom.

It is very common for two of the same sex guinea pigs to "be gay" but it is nature. this is very common and it is perfectly safe.

Most animals who are confined with another of the same gender will at some stage display sexual behavior toward each other. It's the reproductive urge.
lol! they "hump" each other to show dominance.

i have rats.
I have two female rats of my own, and last year they were, well, you know....acting weird, but they are animals, many animals do that. I dont know why though. they just do.
I wouldn't call it homosexuality - I don't think rats are developed enough to have sexual orientations. Your rat is either showing dominance over your other rat, or simply pleasuring herself. It's not that she's attracted to other girl rats as opposed to male rats, their minds aren't capable of those distinct traits.
Animals can be gay, but in this case, I don't believe they are. Rats often mount each other to establish dominance. It is not "humping". Also, rats do not have sex for pleasure like humans do. In this case, I believe the female rats simply have pent up sexual energy. They are probably not spayed, so they often go into heat, and act on their hormones.
I have 2 female rats and had them spayed several months ago not to prevent pregnancy but to help prevent mammary and pituitary gland tumors that females are so very prone to get. Anyhow they show no sexual interest in each other but when I let them out for free range time, I also let a small male rat out with them and sometimes he tries to mount them. It doesn't do much good telling him he's not going to get "anywhere" or "anything"!
