Theres a red bump on my guinea pigs foot?
I just gave my guinea pig a bath. I flipped him over to put baby shampoo on his belly and I saw a huge red but on his foot what is it?
answer:
The best thing it could be would be a minor injury. He may have bumped it on something, causing a slight sore. This would just require you keeping an eye on it to make sure it did not get infected, and it would likely clear up on its own.

It might be bumblefoot. Bumblefoot is treated with oral antibiotics, but antibiotics alone are not enough to fix the problem. The exotic vet may put your boy on a topical ointment such as Blu-Kote, as it contains both an antibiotic and drying agent to help speed up the healing process. He may also prescribe an anti-inflammatory drug. Your little one has the best chance for a full recovery if he gets all three. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Wire flooring is often the culprit. If you have it, you need to give your boy a solid floor from now on, or the problem will recur. If you are using aspen bedding or something similar, stop. The sharpness of the edges will aggravate the condition. It can easily poke into the sore, and cause it to hemorrhage. Put down a softer bedding such as CareFresh Ultra. It will feel soothing against his skin.

Another possibility is an abscess or a cyst. An abscess would need to be either surgically removed or drained by the vet, and an oral antibiotic would likely be given. A topical ointment may also be given. A cyst would need to be drained and the same follow up medications would be likely given.

I will give you two links. One on bumblefoot and one on abscesses. Remember, though, these are not the only things it could be, just what seems most likely. Only your exotic vet can determine the cause for sure. The links are as follows:
