SHOULD I BRING MY HAMSTER TO THE VET?
I have had my hamster for a few months and recently he has been having greasy fur, not running on

his wheel, is really lethargic and has way less stool. I called a veiw different vets and the one I want

to bring him to costs $ 45 and I also would have to pay for whatever treatment he needs. I'm in

highschool and would have to pay for it w/my own money (I don't have a lot).

Should I bring him to the vet?

answer:
That hamster is your responsibility. You adopted him, knowing something can go wrong. If the thought of never going to the vet ever crossed your mind, you might as well let a different person have the hamster. Even the smallest animal, if looks sick, should go to the vet. It does not matter if you don't have * enough * money to go to the vet. You bought that hamster with your own money riiiight? If you wanted to adopt him, you might as well take care of him and bring him to the vet when needed. We do not need another animal dying in this world.

Oh my gosh! Those two people who reccomended getting a new hamster to replace that one are probably animal neglecters and most likely ignorant. You want to replace just * any * animal? That hamster is JUST like a child. He does feel pain, he does have the right to live. IGNORANT.

If its a MALE Hamster, they normally have greasier fur then the females. I thought it odd too, but my vet said it's normal. Is he not pooping? Watch his butt, if he gets diarrhea, go to the pet store & they sell these tablets for under 5 bucks that you dissolve in his drinking water bottle.
If he's not pooping normally, start giving him a little bit of fruits & veggie's everyday.
I have 6 hamsters & here's what they get randomly: Kale, Zuchini, squash, carrots, celery, beets, cucumber, banana, grapes, dry oatmeal, nuts ....

Never ever ever give him , Avocado, cheese or canned foods! They can't digest it.
But maybe a little fresh veggie everyday will help the poop problem.

Good luck

If you think your hammie is sick, then YES. As a responsible pet owner, it is your duty and responsibility to take your pets to seek medical treatment if ever need be. Even hamsters.

I have a vet on speed dial for both my dogs and my rats .. Who see different vets ... I love my dog's vet so won't change .. But he doesn't see rats, so I had to pick a different one for them ...

ummm ... wouldn't it be cheaper to just get a new hamster?
Just saying if your not that attached to it.

I think you should ask them the name of the treatment and look online and see if you can do it your self. If you cant then by all means take him to the vet.

sounds like wet tail.
which will kill your hamster soon.

look up real facts and videos on google and youtube.
type in the syptoms of your hamster or type hamster diseases and next to the disease should have the symptoms

no ... it would probably be cheaper to buy another hamster if this one doesn't make it.
