I am adopting 2 baby rats next week ... I already have a cage for them. The cage was my moms, she was going to use it for her ferret but bought a larger cage instead ... so she let me have it.

Do you think they would be able to get out??
The girl who runs the rescue said she had cages i could buy from her, but i thought the one i had would work out ... should i buy a different one??

i have 2 rats and i have had them in the same cage since they were 7 weeks old and they have never escaped through the bars of the cage. (they ate the plastic and escaped instead lol) i wouldn't worry to much just lay something over the top of the cage, to stop them from trying to climb out, ithe rat on the video tape is rare. lol.

Also the rat on the video was probably in a rabbit cage, (which has bigger bars) get a cage suitable for a rat it it shouldn't be able to get out lol

The rat only got out due to the cage spacing being too large. I recommend having the bar spacing at about 1/2 an inch. ADULT BOYS can have 1 inch, but nothing larger, girls are much smaller though so 1/2 and inch. If the bar spacing is 1 inch, you can pick up some hardware cloth at Homedepot or what have you for 10-20 dollars. Just cut it to size and use zip ties to keep it in place and the cage will be fine. Many people do this and it works great. better than spending a lot more money on a new cage.

well it is a ferret cage so its not actually meant for rats but just be ready if they do escape.
