How to make your free range guinea pigs happy?
My guinea pigs live otuside and i want them to be happier when it rains because it gets wet and i dunno how to make it drier as some don 't have a cage and i put plastic boxes out and a towel ontop so rain doesn't get in but how can I make it drier?
answer: Do you have a veranda on your house at all? Or a shed? You can temporarily move them under there when you are expecting rain (or make a quick dash for it when it starts!). Just make up a temporary pen for them to make them feel secure. It would probably be a good idea for at night time in winter anyways to stop the cold dew from wetting the cage, but it's up to you!
I would worry that the tarp might hold in too much heat/not enough fresh air, so you would need to have good ventilation (like leaving the bottom part uncovered). You could try to put up a sort of roof over the entire cage/free range area but like a free standing roof sort of thing (do you understand what I mean lol it's hard to explain!) if you don't have a veranda/shed or can't have them under it. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
The plastic tubs are an excellent idea, and your piggies will love to hide in them any other time, too! So is the towel, but just watch that it doesn't get soaked and leak more water into the cage! My herd love cushions to lie on inside their caves/hideys, too, and tunnels to hide in for when we have thunder. We have also noticed when it gets really wet (mine are in a set of bank hutches on our veranda, because we have small JRTs, ie rat dogs/the breed is meant to chase and hunt out rats and other small animals, we can't allow ours to free range all of the time), they enjoy burying themselves in old shirts we put in to keep them warm.
As long as they have somewhere warm and dry to sleep (even if it is only a small space for slight showers), they will be happy, don't stress!
Best of luck!

Just buy a huge tarpoline from your local hardware store. That is what I use to cover my guinea pig's hutch at night when it is wet. I would also try to find a place undercover to move your guinea pig's cage to.

A guinea pig can live outside quite easily but it's most happy if you can offer a waterproof shelter with some bedding. Either construct something or buy it.
Put a waterproof covering on top of them ...: \
