Can i feed my rat meat?
My mother had told me that meat makes rats go agreesive. and or makes them bite you. my rat is 3 months or almost there. i got him on sunday . and i gave him a bit of cold chicken today just out of couriosity. and he loved it. and nawed on the bone. it was a large but not to large wing. i also heard or read that this girl had fed her baby rat chicken and he bit her parents but not her. so im pritty cunfused. lol I was not sure if it would be safe to continue giving him meat or to just stop. and if i can how much am i able to give him? i know its high in proten so i would hate to stop. and i know the bones are good for there teeth to help file them down.:)

answer:
Yes it is safe to give rats treats of meat, every other day in small amounts is plenty. Like one small strip of chicken.

ETA: Other posters are wrong. Rats are omnivores they eat meat in the wild. it is NOT bad for them. Rats don't choke on chicken bones like dogs either, they basically pulverise their food with their teeth before swallowing. No risk. And it does NOT make them vicious, I have always given my small omnivores the odd piece of meat and it doesn't harm them. Just make sure not to use processed or salty meats like bacon or pepperoni.

Hi, its fine as a treat but not as a everyday meal. Plus some bones, like chicken bones and some types of turkey bone, can splinter and the rat could swallow the pices that splinter of in there stomach and possible lead to a infection which cannot be treated. And maybe death

i dont think its a good idea to feed them meat i heard from experts its bad for them so just give them normal treats as they should eat and ps just because your curios doesn't mean u should do it remember that old saying and besides that its not like i would give my rat dog food just because i wanted to see if it would die.

If you dont want your rat bitting you REALLY hard like my old gerbil did because I fed her meat, then don't. They bite way harder than you think. She bit my nail right off ... Please don't feed it meat. Give it fruits for treats like bananas or avocados. They love 'em!

You can as a treat. Don't give them chicken bones they can splinter. Other bones are fine as long as they are not to small . I gave my hamster turkey on thanksgiving. I can't remember if she liked it or not.

Giving them meat will not make them aggressive. Just never give them raw meat. You can give them cooked chicken bones.

Meat will not make them go aggressive. I used to give my rats chicken bones for chewing purposes as well. Meat is fine as a treat, but keep in mind that too much can be unhealthy.
