I got him 3 days ago and of course he's been scared but he was getting up and using his wheel, as well as eating and drinking, but today he's hardly come out except to gather some food from his bowl. I've had a hamster before but it was 4 years ago so I can't remember whats normal or not. Is he ok? He's only a bit over 5 weeks old and is a Syrian

He's alright. He may just be a little tired and stressed. If he doesn't get better in 1-2 days, bring him back to the pet store you bought him; I'm sure there's at least a 14 day warranty.
