I want to get a little pet like a dwarf hamster, but I get so sensitive when animals die?
They don't live a very long life ... but i really want some kind of small rodent. The only problem is that I get really sad when i see a dead animal. I have cried when my cat killed a chipmunk:/Should I get one or just admire them at the pet store? I sound like a little kid, I am 14-_-haha
answer: I'm almost 18 and I have that problem too. I also have a dwarf hamster though.:) I ' m dreading the day she'll die, so I try not to think about it, and instead just interact with her and keep her fed and stuff. They're very soft and cute and entertaining, so it's worth it I think. My hamster will bite if someone tries to hold her, but even though I can't have her in my hands, there's lots of other fun things to do and so I don't think about when she's not going to be there.
Well just know that you will outlive this pet, and it really sucks to see your animal die.

I also tend not to recommend little rodents. I took really good care of mine over the years, and they still contracted all kinds of different diseases that were expensive to treat and depressing to witness. My guinea pig died of seizures in front of me and it was soooo painful. Tiny animals like that contract disease really easily living in a dirty cage , and it's a pain the butt to empty that thing ever three or four days, but that's what they need if you're going to give them a good life and not a miserable life in which they sit in their own waste all day and night . They are also very fragile, so if you accidentally drop it and break some of its bones, it's too small to treat (can't fix bones that little when they break) and it's too painful to live with, so you basically have to put it to sleep.
In short ... if you're sensitive to animal deaths, and are not motivated enough to clean a cage every three to four days and replacing water and food daily for the next two or three years, then small rodents are probably NOT the pet for you.
It really depends on you. If you feel as if you cant handle it than dont get one but admire them. If you can , go ahead and buy one. It happens, all animals die. My pet hamster died and I had to put my cat to sleep. I hurts and go ahead cry but I all depends on you. No one knows just how much hurt you are feeling so decied for yourself. Hope this helpd a little
No offence but 14 is a kid;]
