How to stop a pack rat?
My rat, Juan, is a major pack rat. I can clean his cage and find about a weeks worth of food! I've started restricting his daily food intake. I give him a little less than my other rat, Jorge, who doesn't hide his food but rather eats it like it's going to disappear. So far it's helping with the wasted food, but I feel bad. Is there anyway other than restriction that I can use. He hides it in one corner of his cage and when I go to clean it up he gets really frustrated with me. He'll climb up my arm or dig his nose under my hand to move it away. I don't like the fact that he hides it cause it could get him sick if it gets wet and grows mold or something. I have tried removing the hidden food and putting it in the food dish. I've even stood and watched for him to move it and when he does I'll take it away from him and put it back but I can't watch him all the time. Any suggestions?
answer: Sadly, there is no way to stop this. You have to keep putting it in the bowl. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
It might work if you put the bowl where he hides the food, but most rats hide food in multiple places.
