5th day with my hamster?
okay tomorrow (1hr) will be the 5th day ive had my syrian teddy hammster when i first got it it bit me (i bled pretty good..) so would tomrrow be a good time to start petting it.? and when i try to pet it it turns its head around and like puts its front side leg up.. is that like a warning sign or is it like "dont hurt me" or stay away or what?
answer: Never handle a hamster on the first day....on the fifth day put a tiny peice of carrot on your hand and let the hamster take it off...each day do the same but no with a carrot (it will cause diehreah) use a hamster treat and put it farther and farther up your hand so eventully it has to sit on your hand to get it...do this over a 4 day time peiriode..once it sits on your hand you can start handling it :)
Ha ha great name lol OK your hamster was frightened so he bit you. You should try to scoop when he is tames. You tame your hamster by holding your hamster. Let it sniff your hand. I tamed mine by letting it run in a toilet roll then blocking both sides then put the open side in the air then it will be forced onto your hand. It may jump off but keep doing this after the 5th time it won't jump off as quickly. Next do this again and give it a treat and it will relax on your hand. Do not pet it yet. Let it get off and repeat this with no treat. I did this everyday then I began to pet her and then no treat. She lets me scoop her up and I was never bite she is a panda bear
i had the same problem, i went on google and searched this, basically, you have to slowly get your hamster just used to touch. Use the back of a pen and gently pet it, once it gets use to touch, pet with your fingers gently, and take it out of the cage and let it play around you and to explore. Once you are ready, wear some gardening glooves and slowly pick him up, at first not to high, because they might jump off, and if they nib the glove, that's ok, they are getting used to it, and time to time, let your hamster smell your hand. And you have to think, their eye sight is not very good, so if something twice as big as you where coming to pick you up, you'd be afraid to, so take this slow, no rush, and let it learn to love you. good luck:)
Petting her? You don't pet hamsters....they are very fragile.

A few days after you get your hamster, you will need to tame him. Taming is a way to bond with your hamster. He won’t bite or feel threatened when you go to play with him after you tame him.
Let’s say it’s Monday. Hold him for 5 minutes on Monday, then leave him alone the rest of the day. On Tuesday, hold him for 10 minutes, then on Wednesday 15. He should be getting used to this. Or, you can put a treat on your hand and let him crawl into your hands. Be careful, becuase he may run back into his cage during the first day or 2.
When you hold him, talk in whispers, give him a treat, and let him sniff your hands. If he bites you, keep holding him. Don’t put him back in the cage. He must think of his cage as his comfy home, not a penalty box.
Dwarf hamsters do not like to be held.
