My hamster disappeared! help!?
i have 2 dwarf hamsters and last night i didn't see Lilac out at all. the night before they had been squeaking a little bit but they always do and when i watch them they don't even hurt each other they just squeak at each other. this night i still didn't see her so i dug around in the bedding and she wasn't anywhere! i don't understand what happened i never leave the aquarium top off for longer than a minute or 2 while i change the water and i keep a book on top of the lid just in case! my other hamster seems healthy and is acting normal but Lilac is gone! i haven't heard or seen her either! should i try to set a trap for her? the cage is in my room which is upstairs and i doubt she went down the stairs, i need some advice!

I lost one of my hamsters one time too ... for 2 whole weeks and I ended up finding her!
What you should do is try and narrow it down to where she might be. It's highly unlikely that she is in a vent or anything so try not to thing of the worst. If you can narrow it down to what room she might be in, make sure and close that area off and make sure there is no way she can get out!! You might want to make sure that the vent or any other holes are sealed up to ... just in case. Then what I did was I took a shoe box and proped it up with a pencil. I tied a string around a peanut and another string around the pencil and when she got hungry she saw the food and ended up trapping herself in the shoe box. Put a little bit of other food around the peanut so she will notice it. If you can't narrow it down to where she is hiding, make a few of these traps and set them all around the house and eventually she is going to get hungry and start to look for food wherever she is. Good luck finding her!!

What kind of cage do you keep them in? Is it possible that there's some opening she might have squeezed out of? The can fit through some pretty tiny places.

I'd put out a live trap or something. It's easy enough sometimes to escape. Especially the dwarf hamsters

I would definitely make a trap for her; put some food in a cardboard box or a bucket and then make a ramp leading up to it. Just make sure it's tall enough that she can't climb back out, but short enough that she won't be hurt when she gets trapped (perhaps line the bottom with bedding). The smell of the food would hopefully be enough to lure her in. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
Definitely keep searching though! Your hamster would probably either seek out food or comfort. One of my hamsters made a daring escape once, and we found him in a closet curled up in a mitten! Hamsters like to burrow, so places where they could do that would be a good place to start.
Good luck!

Well actually I just had a dwarf hamster that did this two days ago! I searched and searched for her, the best thing you can do is to not look for it, I know it sounds funny but hamsters are just like that it won't be long and she will get hungry and come lookin for food, I had put a little lettuce and grapes in a little bowl close to where I had the cage and she came out and was munchin:) good luck!

I took a bath 1 night and left my hamster in a box. I found him behind a dresser. Look under your bed, behind your dresser, or even .... In the yard. Make sure the door wasn't open to the yard/backyard. Or 1 of them has killed the other. I know that's sad, but i have a dead hamster because my cat killed him. I have a question about this. Just don't think about him if you can't find him in the next 24 hours.

Food traps do the old fashion lead food to a shoe box with strings and waaam! you got her overnight watch your stepping to and aware the family

The best thing to do is to wait till night time when every one is asleep, turn off the heater or whatever things that may make noise. Then turn on all the lights, sit and listen. You will hear it or see it for sure.Do this on each level of the house for 15 min. each.Just dont move or make any noises, pretend like your hunting=)

get their favourite food (not pellets or mixes) and break it up so they can hear and smell it, hopefully.

Dont give up hope , i lost my rabbit for 3 days while she went off on an adventure; eating grass, exploring under the house (rabbits often hide there), a neighbor even saw her hop across the road.
