can i feed my guinea pig grass instead of hay? can i feed it

Can i feed my guinea pig grass instead of hay? can i feed it milk and boiled rice sometimes?
answer:
Heyaah!
Hope my advice helps:
Grass is a good temporary substitute for hay, but introduce it along with hay as sudden change of diet can cause diarrhoea.
Also hay should be in a guinea pigs diet throughtout its entire life as it is full of fibre and helps keep waste solid and clean.
No, I'm afraid boiled rice would rise in their stomachs, and since guinea pigs have relatively small stomachs, hence them pooing frequently, this would cause discomfort and maybe even illness.
Milk is dairy which is unsuitable for guinea pigs.
Stick to water, dried food, grass, hay and veggies.
Hope it helps

You can feed grass but it needs to count in the fresh veg part of the diet, not the hay part. Too much of any kind of veg, including grass, can cause diarrhea so you need to watch it.

Despite what you may hear here or elsewhere on the web, most guinea pigs tolerate milk products, even as adults. That said, I wouldn't feed boiled rice and milk. Rice is all starch and not very nutritious. Sows with big litters can benefit from "milk sop" whole wheat bread soaked in warm milk to help them feed the litter but it should only be used in that situation.

No you can not feed your guinea pig grass instead of hay. You may feed your guinea pig grass sometimes along with thier other vegetables. Grass is counted as a veggies not hay. Make sure it is untreated with no chemicals and away from other animals like cats and dogs so none of thier urine on it.
No you can never feed milk or boiled rice to your guinea pig. Just hay, pellets, some vegetables and nothing else. And the only drink they may get is fresh water which has to be changed every day.

It is essential for guinea pigs to have an unlimited supply of Timothy hay. Grass is not a substitute. Never ever feed a guinea pig milk or any dairy products and you cannot feed them rice either. Guinea pigs should only have fresh and natural food. They need a dry pellet food and two fresh vegetables a day. You need to do some more research on guinea pigs to make sure you know how best to care for their needs.

Grass as a treat only, too much and it will die from diarrhea fast. It needs hay, its dry and helps keep their waste solid and * clean *. You can see if it likes rice, but dry would be better. A better treat is rolled oats, lot of fiber. Carrots, strawberries, lettuce, veggies and fruit, that's all good. As far as milk, I would give the pregnant or nursing moms this thing I would make in the microwave. Pour milk on whole wheat bread, stick in microwave and cook till its hard as a biscuit . It must be dry or it will sour fast. But your gp does not need milk. Make sure you buy guinea pig feed and not rabbit feed. Rabbit feed doesn't have vitamin c and without it, your gp will die.
