Questions about the ball python?

Is there any other way to feed ball pythons besides mice and other rodents. I want one but my mom is completely against keeping dead rodents (or live) in the house. Another question: how much do they cost? How big does there house have to be? WHats the best soil/sand to put at the bottom? Any other suggestions about house decor? Thanks so much
When I first wanted to get a snake I didn't want one that ate mice either. It's just too sad to watch. So I did my research and there is a snake that will eat crickets as well as small feeder fish. I believe they're called rough green snakes.

USUALLY these are very expensive and hard to find. That is the # 1 reason I did not get one.

the # 2 reason is that they are more for the experienced snake owner.

# 3 I wanted a big snake.

So, about ball pythons. They are picky eaters and MAY eat pre killed mice, but it is always better to go with live. I tried feeding my corn a pre killed mouse and she totally ignored it, and corns usually adjust to pre killed well . pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Also, if you feed live mice, it's not like it will be living with you. Once you feed your snake the mouse it will be gone. So youll only have a live mouse in your house for 15 minutes, tops.

I've seen BPs as cheap as 20 bucks at my local reptile store, and as much as 80 at petsmart.

Babies you can start in a 10 gallon tank, and move up to atleast a 30 gallon tank by the time they are full grown. These snakes don't get very long, but they do get thick, and prefer to stay in a ball, hence the name BALL python. So they do not NEED a lot of space, but bigger is always better.

You juse need a hot side, a cool side, a hide on each side, a water dish your snake can fit his whole body into if he wants to take a bath, and thats pretty much it. You can get other stuff if you want , like branckes, but it's not necessay. There's lots of options. Just go to your petstore and ask what they use. Just nothing pine, it's bad for their respatory system. And NO sand.
1.) No, however if you feed live your mom wont ever need to see as it comes in a cardboard box and you can immediately put it in the snakes cage as long as the snake eats it if it doesn't the mouse will hurt the snake pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

2.) Ball pythons cost 20-30 $ for a normal and if you want a special morph anywhere from 40-2000 $ if you get at an expo and 50-60 at pet stores if you get one at a pet store make sure it is captive bred.

3.) 10 as a baby 30-40 as an adult

4.) The soil i use is eco-earth

5.) It needs two hides a heating lamp and a climb

PS There is no snake that eats crickets only lizards do that
ball pythons are very picky eaters most won't touch anything but live mice lots of times-and I mean they will just starve themself to death! You should look into other types of snakes maybe smaller snakes will eat crickets not sure, but don't get a ball if you arn't going to feed live mice.Mine went 7 months without eating before i gave up and started giving it live mice. And the mice so stink! @ I tried every thing from dipping the frozen mice (thawed) in chicken broth, to withholding water for a while then giving the (frozen thawed) mouse dipped in water.
1) no you cannot feed them anything other than rodents, however if you get a snake from a breeder and not a petstore it will probably eat mice because it wasn't wild-caught.

2) they cost around $ 30-40, and for a special morph 100-800 + (depends)

3) 29 gallon + is good for an adult

4) Eco-Earth is good

5) go research the snake to find more about what goes in the cage ..
I'm not answering any questions other than the mice one, because you already can't get one. They only eat mice and rodents.

Don't take the guys advice about live and your mom not seeing it, because that's endangering the snake's life for no reason other than your mom doensn't want mice.
