My bearded dragon has been gravid for about 5 weeks since Ive noticed her belly growing, now she is about to explode, we created a nice underground type nest with vermicillim, yet she still eats like she's never seen food before and hasnt layed her eggs, she does go into the nesting area, this is the first time she became gravid, when should I take her to a vet?
Only sincere answers please, we treat all our animals like children and obscene and stupid remarks are not appreciated
The gestation period is 5 weeks that you are correct, but instead of building a nest your suppose to let her build her own to lay the eggs, this way she will feel more secure about the spot she has layed them in and know that know one can find them.So i advise yo to add more substrate and let her build her own nest and lay the eggs, Just be on the watch and make sure you remove the male if he is still in there. She will hopefully lay in a day or two.
Maybe it is a mr. breaded dragon.
It is possible that she is very close so don't panic just yet. When our beardies start digging, they will dig with just front legs first, we put in a "wet", or "laying box", either with damp vermiculite or a mix of sand and peat. I usually make a few dips in it so that I can tell when she's laid as they always pat the top down when they have finished, that way you can tell straight away, mind you she will look very thin as well. Once she start digging frantically with all four legs, that's when she means it and she will lay. Our laying boxes are usually atleast 6inches deep preferably a bit more, it usually isn't recommended to let them just make their own nest in the viv as the laying area needs to be damp and that really isn't advisable in a beardie viv having the whole area damp. That isn't the way breeders would normally do it. Good luck
