This morning, my columbian red tail boa constricter seemed fine until I merely touched him to try and pick him up, he immediately turned his head to me and hissed. Mind you, this snake has never hissed once for as long as I've known him (about 2 years). I've never even him open his mouth unlesss he was eating. He's always been such a sweetheart and I've never had a problem like this before.Does anyone know or have any idea why he could be acting this way?
He was probably sleeping and when you went in to touch you startled him thus he hissed, you lucky all you got was a hiss. The general thing to do before entering any snake enclosure is to tap it about two or three times.Being snakes hear via vibrations and not sound, so next time tap the cage to alert him that you are entering the cage.
