Because they don't sell endangered species of rodents to feed to your snake. There are about a gazilliion mice in this world so nobody cares if a few of them are fed to a reptile. Also, it isn't like the pet stores are going into the wild to catch mice and rats, instead they are breed by the thousands in a building.
the biggest thing about live feeding with CAPTIVE bred animals is the risk of the live feeder attacking the one eating it. I wont watch the video. Ive seen enough of sidistic kids feeding things to other animals thats inappropriate and wrong (ie baby gecko (HEALTHY) to a snapping turtle. a guine pig to a ball) The risk of the live animal attacking the captive bred one is a meaningless and pointless reason to feed them live (specailly for kids sick amusment) when a reptile refuses the dead animal then thats the only reason to feed live. Im ofcourse refuring to snakes/monitors and such. I feed my geckos live bugs no problem. Im not one of them people who sees one species is more important then the other but when it comes down to the animal eating the live animal im not one to risk serious injuries when it can be prevented.
I agree 100% with Oikos. Some reptile and snakes will not eat anything other then live food. Just because some people don't like or agree feeding live doesn ' t mean other who own the animals should conform to their rules and laws. Besides it is not far for the animal to die because of some protester. Finally snakes in the wild eat live food, why should that change. As feeding live to anything their are risks but if the animal will not switch it will not switch.

I don't have snakes but one of my leopard geckos will not eat anything unless it wiggles or moves relatively fast. He won't touch mealworms or super worms as they don't move fast enough to keep his attention.
I don't like to watch reptiles eatings live prey, so I "m not going to watch the video. I feed only frozen/thawed to my snakes. I do think it is inhumane to feed live ... it is not natural as the prey has no chance of escape. Keeping reptiles in captivity isn't natural anyway, so why do people think feeding live is "natural"?
I am not against live feeding per se, I just don't think it should occur if the animal will take dead prey. In the UK it is very much frowned upon to feed live, the vast majority of snake owners never have to feed live because most of the snakes are quite happily taking kill, if you really try it is the rare snake that refuses to eat it dead. Especially when you're talking big rats, they can actually do quite a bit of damage and I wouldn't want to inflict that on any of my scaley babies.

And FYI, I'm not a tree hugger, just happen to like reducing cruelty wherever possible. And there's a big difference between the "wild" and the tank in your living room. If you're so pro "wild" why do you have a reptile in the first place? In the wild a mouse has a shot at escape, in captivity its cornered. If the rep doesn't strike instantly its cruel IMO.
Oh, and by the way you're not supposed to feed dragons mice often, they are supposed to get mice seldom if ever, its bad for them to eat mice regularly. So not only are you hurting mice, you're hurting your dragon . Way to go.
Im not against live feeding exept for feeding snakes or lizards other smaller reptiles that to me is so sick I love all reptiles and hate that some ppl feed there snakes and lizards small feeder reptiles u could use feeder reptiles as pets to there just the same. i think feeding small reptiles to bigger animals should be illegal.I dont care if they eat each other in the wild it doesnt make it any less wrong.u control what goes in your reptiles stomach and those u who thumbs down me would u like to eat other humans? i bet u feed ur reptiles small helpless baby reptiles those make good pets to and those of u who have reptiles who you feed other reptiles how would u like it for ur reptile to be eaten by a bigger reptile huh and so there u see my point small reptile haters thumbs down to u.and loving reptiles doesnt make me a tree hugger.

Ok this is a weird question but heres my answer.
We feed all of our reps live, for the simple reason that its the circle of life. Thats the way it was intended. MOST reps find it hard to digest frozen, thawed, or dead of anykind. And NATURALLY that is how they survive!
I am a female by the way, so weird as it may seem, i have to feed my snakes and monitor because like any other pet they are family and torture is torture not matter what way you look at it. The circle of life is how God inteneded.
I feed live
My turts wont take dead worms, or dead pinkies. No wiggle .. no eating. And the snapper turns her nose up at dead fish, for a week by which time it stinks and mucks up her tank so badly I have to break it down and clean. So she gets live fish and Live pinky or Hopper mice and does not mess around with them.
