Why does my beardie keep diggin?
its not gravid, its temps are fine, its eating good. but over the course of the last 3 days it just digs and digs and digs all day long until lights out. never did this before this is happeneing out of the blue. no change in lights/environment/diet. maybe the tank is getting too small, but it still has plenty of room to run and climb around. i figure it wants to come out so i let it roam and it seems cool, but as soon as i put it back into the tank it tries to jump out of the tank from its basking spot. check the temps 2 or 3 times a day with a probe and its always right at the cool side and the warm side. if this is natural then its ok i just want to make sure my beardie is happy.it just shocked me that ive never seen this behaviour from it before. i was testing sand substrate out for a week but quickly changed my mind its back on papertowels until i get tiles over the weekend but it tears the towels up trying to dig .. even when theres nothing to dig it just scratches the glass at the bottom. what do you think it is?
Hello to answer your question he could just simply be bored.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com You can take a small pvc pipe and drill holes in it. Add meal worms to the pipe place ends on it. Then he will hear them moving around in the pipe, and as they move one or two will fall out on occasion. This is entertaining toi them it assitts with feeding and boredom. Best toy ou
Is it a female??? If it is than it is trying to dig a spot to lay it's eggs. Even if you don't have a male in the tank doesn't mean it can't lay the eggs it just means that the eggs won't be fertilized. if not it is just bored.
its becoming sexually mature. they bury there eggs.
You were worried your tank is too small. How big is it? Is it at least a 40 gallon breeder? If not, it is too small and can overheat. What exactly are your basking spot temps? An adult should be at 100F. How do you know she isn't gravid? Beardies can lay eggs without a male. Digging is very common in behavior for a female who wants to lay eggs. You can supply her with a lay box just in case. Without one, and if she is indeed gravid , she can become egg bound.
