Hey, there is this large carpet python who lives in my garden and I'm worried that it could go after my guinea pigs, or my cat!! At the moment it is lying in my gutter of my patio! However the guinea pigs are in a secure cage with the roof on tightly?? Would it be able to get in, or would it be able to eat my fully grown cat??
Thatnks, I'm really worried!!
Ps. I can't put them inside because they smell and my dad is really picky about animals being inside the house!!
Hello if there is a python living in y our garden, you first should verify the species and rest assured someone either released it and or it got out.
Either way, be careful as you do not know the temperment.
As far as your pets, yes they would be at risk depending on the sixe of hte snake. He can hget hungry and decide they will be dinner. At the very least, scare them terribly.
It would be advised tha tyou will neeed to have the enake removed and then look at the housing issues if any
Carpet python in the states ... how very odd they are not native. If you are in the US as it says below your question and it is deffo a carpet python I'd call animal control or a reptile rescue as its obv. someone's escaped pet, and that will take care of your problem.

As for your piggies, the snake is unlikely to be very hungry right now as brumation period is beginning where snakes don't really eat. And as long as the hutch is strong and secure with no gaps the snake will not get in. There's likely lots of easier prey around for it to eat. As for the cat, it would have to be a pretty big carpet python, unless its one of the giants at around 8 feet long I doubt it would go for a cat. If it is big you might want to consider keeping your cat in a pen or something. Some people build really nice outdoor pens for their cats, just til the snake moves on.
Agreed with the first post.
Are you sure its a carpet python?
Someone could have let it loose and it'll just die if it doesn't have the proper heating like it should.
If your pigs are in a secure cage with no holes big enough for the snake to fit through then they'll be fine. With your cat, as long as the snake isn't bigger, don't worry. The snake is going to know enough to not try and eat it if the cat is bigger.

He may try to strike at your cat only if the cat gets too close. The python will be in defense mode.
