i have a northern water snake and for some reason it wont eat. also its skin is flaking all over its body in little spots like its going to shed but it has been like that for more than two weeks and i know a lot about snakes but i have no idea what this is. it has been very slow and unenergetic so last night it let me open its mouth and give him a minnow and he swallowed it. but it didn't help at all it just keeps getting worse and worse. like this morning it lifted its head up and opened its mouth as wide as it could like it was going to barf and held it there for about five seconds. Oh ... well it just died ....: (if you could tell me if it was a disease or what just in case i catch another one so ill know weather to bring it to a vet or not.
How about you just quit catching them? Water snakes make poor pets and are often filled with parasites . The stress of taking them out of their home and putting them in a small cage, combined with the internal parasites they often have, is usually enough to cause their death. If you want a pet snake, buy one from a breeder!
see a urologist
i suggest you go get it checked out:/

good luck!
Despite the name 'water snake', damp environments are NOT good for these creatures as it can cause skin infections. That is probably what happened to your northern water baby. Also make sure you locate a good vet specialising in reptiles before you get your next snake. The best environment for water snakes in my opinion is a sandy aquarium with enough of hiding places and a container of water that it can easily get in and out of.
Also make sure you keep them in the right temperature. Any thing between 20 degrees (centigrade) to 30 degrees should be ok for the Northern water snake.
