I know someone very well. He is a herpetologist, and keeps many reptiles. He went to a reptile and amphibian pet store. To my surprise, he told me there were African dwarf crocodiles and Spectacled caimans for sale. He asked the pet store workers questions. The first one was, "If I put a crocodilian in a small tank, will it stay small because of the tank size?" They said yes. The second one was, "Are these captive bred crocodilians?" They said yes again, claiming they were born in captivity. The third one was, "Do the crocodilians get any lighting?" They said no. He even saw someone getting an African dwarf crocodile, thinking what they said was true. Remember , we both live in a state where keeping such animals is legal. As in, they do not need a license because the state we both live in says people keeping exotic reptiles do not need an exotic pet license.
They'll say anything to make a buck plan and simple. The more exotic the animal is the more they'll stretch the truth/lie because so little knowledge is done. Pet stores who sell more common pets dont have to lie as much or if at all. Most people who go into a pet store are buying "sper of the moment" animals so they dont prepared themselves thus the workers are able to tell them what they wanna hear. It seems that all it boils down to is making money.
Because some people only care about money, and not the purchaser or the product (in this case a living animal). It's sad, and it sucks. Just avoid those places, and tell people you know to watch out too.
Its a business they need to survive selling cheap and trying to sell the animals is there job there life.
