answer:
I'd say corn snake. There very docile and rather interesting. Also they are wonderful starting pets in the reptile world. Ball pythons are good too, but they are on the larger side in thickness. I suppose it comes down to if you like snakes or lizards, because they require almost the same maintenance and supplies. Although snakes come in a verity of colors and patterns, and are very beautiful creature.
I would advise that you look into ball pythons. They are wonderful pets. Corn snakes are thin and quick. A great beginner pet and a lot of fun, but I don't feel they are AS interesting as ball pythons. Leopard geckos are another GREAT starter reptile. It is a lot of fun to watch them eat their crickets and meal worms, watch them grow, and handling them is a blast, but I feel the ball python has a better "cool" factor about them. They have more girth, they only get about 4-5 feet, and they are very tame. The knowledge needed to be a good ball python keeper is a little more advanced than a leopard gecko, or a corn snake, but what ever you choose, research, research, research. Welcome to the wonderful world of reptiles. Be sure to checkout kingsnake.com. There are a TON of wonderful people in the forums at that website, and that is where even I go to get expert advise. Good luck and have fun!

can you handle feeding mice to a snake or feeding live crickets.
The lizards are quick but corn snakes are easier to handle.
The corn snake grows bigger but you could probably afford a big vivarium.
In my opinion the corn snake would be a better first reptile
