What do small turtles eat?
i wan to buy a small turtle but i need to know what they eat can some one tell me?
Need to know what kind of turtle. I had some Red Ear Sliders I fed them worms, meal worms, crickets, gold fish,
What kind of small turtle? Diet can vary drastically from species to species... what would be perfectly fine for a red eared slider, wouldn't necessarily do any good for a box turtle, and would be completely inappropriate for any species of tortoise.
Also, please keep in mind that very few turtle species stay small... the smallest are muds, musks, and maps, and they will still need a 50 gallon tank as adults, heat lamp, uv-b lighting, filter, water heater, etc., etc., etc.
Edit:
First, there is no such thing as a miniature turtle... only baby turtles... the species sold most often as "miniature turtles" are typically red eared sliders, which depending on gender, will grow up to be anywhere from 8 to 12 inches... remember, 10 gallons of water per inch of carapace (top shell) length.

In response to another answerer, pellets should at ~most~ be 25% of total diet. Feeder fish, earthworms, mealworms, crickets, blood worms, grass shrimp, various veggies and fruits should make up the rest.
PLEASE! Be sure of what you're buying before you purchase it and do a good deal of research (beyond asking the person selling it to you) on the animal before bringing it home. Basic setup for any aquatic species will run $100 to $150... that doesn't include the turtle. They're also a long-term commitment... most species live 25-30 years or more.
Turtle pellets worked for me (like fish food for turtles).
Any place that sells turtles will likely sell turtle food.
Before buying a turtle, make sure to read up on how to care for it. Also, the expense (which will continue to be a lot more than just the purchase of the turtle itself).

Most species of turtles will not stay very small. You will need a larger tank to accomodate your turtle as it grows. Turtles have a very long lifespan. Be prepared for a pet that will live well into your adult life.
