How much should i feed my bearded dragon?
i have a sub adult bearded dragon that i just got, i was wondering how many crickets i should feed him per day? he is about 6-7 inches from nose to base of tail. and about a foot and a half overall. i fed him like three crockets dusted with calcium powder today and he wouldn't eat anymore but i also fed him a bunch of mealworms because i just got the crickets today.
I think 3 per day you feed your bearded dragon.
Hi Tim

I have been doing some research into this myself over the past couple of months to find out how to properly care for bearded dragons (before taking the plunge into beardie ownership). What I’ve realized after visiting a number of forums and information websites is that how much you feed your bearded dragon really depends on how much he/she is willing to eat. Although they eat a wide variety of foods, some tend to be a little temperamental. In saying this though, there is a general guideline which recommends that adult beardies should eat approximately 12 – 24 crickets, 2 times a week. However I wouldn’t be too concerned that your beardie is eating just 3 in one day, as long as he/she is eating a variety of other foods as well. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Perhaps you could offer crickets daily as your bearded dragon may prefer to eat small amounts at a time. Other bearded dragon owners even recommend to feed them as many crickets as they can, or are willing to eat in 15 minutes! Be wary of this though, you will want to monitor his/her protein intake. Mealworms are a great alternative and it’s fantastic to see you’re dusting the crickets with calcium powder.

It’s also really important to provide plenty of vegetables (these can be frozen veggies for convenience) and collard greens as they are high in nutritional value and low in fat. That’s another point I forgot to mention earlier, although mealworms/waxworms/etc are great, just be wary of the high fat content in them. Should be ok though in small amounts, just a good idea to be aware in the future and watch your beardies weight!

I hope this helps. There’s plenty of information about this on the net, so I would suggest doing a bit of further research. I’ve added some links to articles that I’ve found to be very useful, if you’d like to check them out. Also forums are a great place to go to for information. You’ll find other newbie owners who have the same questions as you, but also many experienced owners who I’m sure would be happy to answer your questions. However I’m happy to help if you have any further questions or concerns!
