What does it mean when a snake has a certain percentage?
I want a Hog Island Boa. I found a breeder and on their website they say it is 62.5% Hog.
Is it mixed with other Boas? What does this mean????????????????????
Thanks
It means it is mixed with other boas. Ask the breeder what boa he used. This could potentially affect the size and the temperament
http://zoocrewkids.blogspot.com/ Can you send my the link or post it please so I can tell you what it means? I have a ton of experience with snake biology but from what it sounds like this breeder is a douche.
That doesn't make sense, because if it was a hog that carried "special" genetics for particular morphs, then it would be 25% het, 33% het, 50% het, 66% het, or 100% het, and if it is a hybrid using other boas, then it would be 25%hog and 75%(whatever), 50%hog and 50%(whatever), or 75% hog, and 25% whatever. No where in snake history have I EVER come across ANYTHING that is 62.5% anything. I would look at other breeders.

Yes it is a mix. Most likely Colombian , probably a normal for a Sunset project This is just a locale cross of the same species.

Well actually that would be the percentage you get if you breed a 75% to a 50%. ( 75/2 + 50/2 )
One of my projects use a 50% Mexican BCI and 100% Mexican BCI. back to the mother will produce 62.5% and back to the father will produce 82.5 Mexican BCI.
another about 4 years off with an albino female that is 25% Suriname, the offspring will be 12.5 % Suriname.
Just ask the breeder for clarification .

I was under the impression that when in percentage under a 100% the snake is a possible so you have a 66% possible hog until proven which can only be done by breeding.most of them do not prove out while some do so good luck!
