I need Green Tree Python HELP?
I am doing a project on the green tree python and have a few questions
- Does the green tree python live alone in the wild? Or does it prefer a companion/company
- What heath issues would this animal encounter in the wild vs. zoo enviornment

THANKS
There are almost no snake species that live together and Green tree pythons are no exception. They live alone in the wild except at breeding time when they seek a mate. Even then, they breed and then go their own way. A few species like rattlesnakes do live in groups during hibernation periods but after they come out in the spring, they separate. This makes good sense in the snake world as it reduces competition for food in a small area.
The health issues they encounter in captivity would be stress, respiratory issues, disease spread due to being in close contact with other snakes and stress created immune suppression. There is also the issue of parasites. In the wild, all snakes are hosts to parasites, both internal and external. However, they rarely have a huge population due to the fact that they move around and rarely come in contact with their own feces etc. In cage situations, there is a higher chance that they will come into contact with infested feces and the fact that they are stressed can lead to the body's inability to keep parasites at a low level. I'd say in zoo/captive kept animals, stress is the most problematic issue. Wild animals have stress of course, but not like living in unatural situations. That said, captive born and bred green tree pythons most likely outlive their wild cousins since they do not have to worry about predators or injuries/diseases that are not treated.
