How do i make a cheap, yet safe, habitat for a turtle?
I'm thinking about getting a turtle. I've found the one I want and everything. (well, I'm debating on a couple, but still) I looked at the turtle habitat sets and stuff, but they are very expensive, and I don't have that money to buy a set. Anyone have any tips on how i can cheaply make a safe habitat for a turtle.
Now that I think about it, It might help people to know what kind of turtles I'm interested, for size reasons. I'm debating between Baby Musk Turtle, Baby Yellow Belly Turtle, and Baby Eastern Painted Turtle. The yellow and eastern are less than 30 dollars, the other less than 40. I'd like not to have to spend much more than 40, and even then i might not be able to afford it. Any ideas?
You might want to look up everything because turtles can get very expensive and if you don't have alot of money!! But if you do any turtle under 3 or 4 inches can have diseases or something like that! i think

Those are relatively expensive turtles to keep. Have you looked at russian tortoises? All they need is a big cardboard box, some substrate, a big water bowl (that they can climb in and out of) and some food. Maybe not for you, but check em' out anyways. They are soooo cool!
Hi, um 1st you need a big tank, a filter, a basking rock with a heat lamp, plants and things so they ca explore, not very high water, turtles love meat and fresh fruit, that is what i give mine, but turtle food is fine too, but they love! worms. I hope this helped a little!!!!?!
I have sand as substrate and a few aquatic plants and rocks that you can find outside or at a park (boil the rocks to kill any microorganism that could make the turtle sick) just arranged to give him a few hiding spots. They like crickets, earthworms, aquatic snails, shrimp, meal-worms. they also like leafy greens like collard, mustard and dandelion greens, kale. I keep aquatic plant in my tank for him to snack on and you can mix this all in with turtle pellets here and there. You going to need a big tank (10 gallons per inch of shell per turtle). Your also going to need a big filter. You can buy a basking spot($25) or you make one out of some rocks. You also going to need a lamp with a UV bulb and a heater for your tank to stay heated at about 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Turtle are kind of expensive animals to keep so if your low on cash you might want to reconsider.
turtles arent for everyone there not a hold and pet kinda pet,and its a 20+year commitment (if your doing it right) baby water turtles are cute but they will get bigger i think the musk will only grow to 5or6 inches the others can get quite a bit larger and you will end up needing a rather large tank 55/100+gal. waterturtles are kinda messy when it comes to dirting their tankwater. so freqent water changes pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
plus supplys mentioned in above posts
you might want to consider a box turtle or russian tortoise if you really want turtle no messy water to deal with, their dry so you dont need to fish them out and dry them off before you can handle them
the smallest confortable space for a box is a 3x3 area(plywood box ,plastic tote, old fishtank that doesnt hold water) you can interact with a box a lil more than a painter

you might want to contunie to do some more research before you purchase 1 theres really alot to know when keeping turtles, wet or dry

you can get some info from skilled keepers on box turtles & tortoise,,, there is a water turtle section there also ive seen it but never looked in it
