EXPERTS ONLY: ousing a male and female together without her getting pregnant?
I was told by a breeder that you can house a male and female together without her
ovulating so she doesn't get pregnant so they can be companions. He said having the
hot side on 90 and the cool side on 82 will keep her from ovulating. Is this true? Also,
will he still try to mate with her? Will she get stressed? Pregnant? Lay eggs? etc.
either way he would try to mate with her, because males are always "in heat" , and there is a possibility she can get pregnant.
don't know anything about lizards but sounds like you can't to me. that is what animals do
They don't need companions. They are solitary in the wild anyway, only coming together to breed.

And there will be nothing stopping them at those temps from breeding. And yes a male will always try to mate. She may get stressed. If they do breed she will likely want to lay eggs. If they breed repeatedly she can have calcium related problems.
The only way to keep them from breeding is to house them separately.

Remember leopard geckos are solitary and do best alone. Unless you are breeding there is no reason to house a male and female together. Even if she doesn't get pregnant the male will constantly try to breed with her, stress her out, bite her, could bully her and generally just cause unneeded stress. I am not a gecko breeder and have never heard that temps will keep her from ovulating.
