Do Darkling Beetles Bite (adult mealworms)?
I just picked up a darkling beetle larva (mealworm), and noticed that he had little mandibles. I have long fingernails, so I put my fingernail near his mandibles to see if he'd bite. He did.
I was wondering if the darkling beetle also had mandibles, and will they use them to bite someone?
I breed mealworms, and I never really payed any attention to their anatomy. I've also never been bitten by the larvae or the adult beetles.

Yes, they do bite so be careful. I am as well a breeder for my beardies, leos, and cresties. One time I was holding some to transfer them to be eaten by one of my bearded dragon (She like the adult beetles more) and it bite me.I Don't transfer with my hands anymore I use tweezers or gloves. Don't worry you won't die.
ha ha i have about 75+ in this plastic box, i have transferred them several times with my hands and no harm has come from them but you say you were bitten and the person above says the bite well i will have to be careful now ha ha
