Can bearded Dragons share an enclosure or do they have to stay separated?
two bearded Dragons have been dropped off at our house with little instruction. the owners are moving and we became the emergency home. They are in an aquarium about 18 inches wide, 4 feet long and 2 feet deep. it is divided in half by a piece of glass that seems to have been glued in place. I read that they need a cool side and a heated side on a website but the set up of this tank doesn't seem really provide that.
Can the glass divider be removed or can they not be housed together?
I know the owners have had them for a little over a year but do not know their sex.
answer: If I were sexing a dragon, I would hold the dragon along a forearm facing away. I would gently lift the tail up and look at the area just above the vent between the vent and the tail. Two humps with a center channel indicates the dragon is male. One hump against the vent or a flat area indicates the dragon is female. Then make some decisions on what you want to do. If you have 2 males, they cannot stay together ever. A male and a female WILL produce offspring. Two females, could be fine together. Once you know the sexes, you will know best how to proceed.

If you are not sure of the sexes, you could rig a temporary set up for each dragon very cheaply. Wal Mart sells 36" sterlite bins that can be rigged with a Clamp Light (found in the electrical department) on one short end. If you purchased a few different wattages of clear incandescent light bulbs (75, 100 and 150) you will have options to find the bulb that gets the area under the basking spot (Clamp Light) to about 107. The temp on the cool side floor should be no higher than 87. The dragons will also need UVB over each bin. One great choice is a Repti-Sun 10.0 flourescent type tube with a shop light type fixture, both of which can be purchased at (www.bigappleherp.com). The UVB will lay across the top if the fixture has a reflector or can be suspended from the ceiling. There is a Food Chart at http://www.fireandicedragons.com/food_chart/food_chart.html that provides the veggies and fruit adult dragons require. Add to that some adult crickets or medium superworms (pet stores) dusted a few times a week with a calcium powder like Rep-Cal and you should be OK until you can do further research.

Bearded dragons are best kept separate as it's often reported that they will fight or the smaller of the two gets picked on a little. Each beardie needs at least 4ft floor space each, so it'll be best for them to separate them in to separate vivs and take out the divider that's in the current viv.

Is this how the last owners kept them? Are they the same size? How do they act when together and not separated? These are the questions that need to be answered before you let them live together.
separate enclosures are best, more than one living together usually results in unhealthy behaviors and living conditions for one if not both. keep them separate plain and simple.
Beardies tend to be naughty to each other. Biting tail tips and toes is what they do. Keep them separate
