i heard that supposively coiled uvb lights could cause eye damage to reptiles?? is this true or is it nothing to be worried about?? and i have a 40 gallon tank and its about 16-18 in tall so what ivb would best fit my tank
yes, they have been known to be very dangerous because some give off too much UV rays and stuff or cause eye damage like you said. Switch to a long UVB bulb or you could also switch to a Mercury Vapor Bulbs which give off both UV rays and heat. Either way you have to replace either one every 6 to 8 months because they run out and they just give off non incandescent light after that.
Both Coil and most MVB's are under "investigation" for causing eye problems. I am a long time MVB user and bought one a month ago and my favorite beardie looked like she had no eyes 4 days later they were so swollen.
Changed it to a Reptisun 10.0 linear bulb and in 2 days she was completely back to normal.
For a 40 gallon (if it is a breeder) a 36 "bulb will fit across the tank

I buy them to stretch the length of the tank but some use smaller bulbs that cover about half of the tank.
