why don't snakes have eye lids?

Undecided Question

Why don't snakes have eye lids?
They have a "Brill" which is like a permanent contact lens protecting the inner eyes. The brill gets cloudy as a snake goes into its shedding season.

They actually have a sort of transparent eyelid that is always covering the eye. As this is always protecting the eye, there is no need for blinking.
The eyecap is an eyelid. In snakes, the two lids fused into one protective coating.
