I don't know how big the tank is, but I don't recommend putting a corn snake in a 30 gallon tank when it's not even a foot long. The snake will get stressed. Either just go buy another little tank or find a way to put a false wall in to make the tank smaller, then pull out the wall when the snake is bigger. If the snake is already well over a foot long and the tank isn't bigger then a 30 gallon, it should work out. Just make sure that the tank is well furnished. The hide, water bowl, and piece of wood that comes with most setups wont be enough by itself.
You should get a sub-adult snake. They are easier to care for because they are usually eating better and if you don't have much experience babies can be hard cause they can be finicky. I just raised my first babies this fall and they were very good. I have other snakes but my dad took care of them until they could actually eat. Hahaha! Good luck!!
