what do i need for my bearded dragon?

iam going to get a bearded dragon what do i need for it? I have read and stuff but just checking
At least a 40 gallon breeder tank (36x18x16high)

Branch/rocks to bask on

UVB reptile 10.0 Reptisun bulb and fixture

Heat basking lamp

Digital probe thermometer to measure basking temp (the most important thing you can do).

Bowl for salad

Crickets and proper housing and feeding of the crickets since they must be gutloaded

Small water bowl

Rubbermaid container for bathing/soaking

Never use sand or loose substrate ... it holds onto bacteria, stinks, parasites can reproduce in it and it can cause impaction.

A good reptile vet ... fecal samples should be done as soon as you get a beardie, then at least yearly after that to keep an eye on coccidia levels.

They say you can start out in a small 10 gal for baby beardies, but I starting with the size that they need as and adult. Mine started in a 29 gal long and in 6 months out grew it, she is now in a 55 gal reptile breeder tank. Mine loves her hammock, she sleeps in it every night. They have suction cups, she pulls it down every day and plays with it, but she loves it. Mine prefers lots of things to climb on and jump off of. I highly recommend using the reptile carpet, easy to clean, and when it gets really dirt you can spray it down with a hose or in the tub and it's like new. I started using sand and I hate it, so messy, she always looks muddy. But I haven't had the problem of impaction, because she is hand fed outside of her tank. My best advice is handle the dragon, even as a small baby, daily, several times if possible. Mine is so tame, that she spends the majority of the day hanging out on the couch watching everyone go by. Good luck and have fun
If you've been reading up on them, then you're on your way to making a good Beardie parent!

A nice big habitat, a UV A & B daylamp, a heat lamp, branches to bask on, a feeding bowl, a water bowl, a reliable source of crickets, and a reliable source of garden greens. Then you're set.

If you're lucky, your petstore will stock Bearded Dragon pellets - they're handy for when you can't find crickets or greens.

I was also lucky enough to find a guinea pig harness that fits my Beardie nicely - it makes easier to take her places. She likes the social interaction. It alleviates the boredom.

Good luck and enjoy!
