I looked in my snakes tank and for the past week Iv seen these tiny white specks moving around his skull and some drowned in his water bowl, are they mites, the snake doesnt seemed bothered by them. And how do I get rid of them? ??
the best way to check for mites is look on the under side of your snakes chin. look under his chin and if he has mites that's where they congregate. if you do have mites you need to soak everything in the tank in a 2% bleach/water solution (2% bleach) wash the tank or soak it in the same mixture rinse everything very well. once the bleach smell is gone you can put the enclosure back together. as far as your snake you need to run luke warm water over the animal and wash the mites off. you may need to do this more than once to get rid of the mites completely. hope this helps
Mites are usually black and look like they are attached under the scales. His bedding may have been infested with something. I'd remove everything and wash all cage furniture well. Get new bedding or use newspaper for now.
Mites can range in color from brown, black, white and red
